At long last, we’re finally concluding our two-parter on Pamela Des Barres’ epochal memoir I’m with the Band! In this episode, we get in some more digs at our nemesis Jimmy Page, with some bonus potshots at Don Johnson, and continue to gush about how nice it is to read a book where you don’t end up hating the protagonist by the end. The end of our year-long immersion in the filmography of Mike Myers is in sight; but hoo boy, is this final stretch a test of endurance. Our penultimate film is 2008’s The Love Guru: the movie that finally put Mike’s career out of its misery after The Cat in the Hat roughed it up and left it for dead. Join us as we discuss the unfathomable depths to which Ben Kingsley sinks in his performance, and repeatedly refer to Romany Malco as “Romany Falco.” But really, who cares? Nothing matters! Join us as we discuss our favorite and least favorite scenes, the only circumstances under which we would be interested in seeing a Wayne’s World 3, and whether Wayne and Garth are actually ageless, dimension-hopping demigods. Well, we’re only two months into our year-long foray into the cinematic oeuvre of Mike Myers, and we’re already starting to regret it. 1993’s So I Married an Axe Murderer is, we take no pleasure in reporting, a thoroughly mediocre film that also has the nerve to subject us to way too many shots of Myers’ unclothed lower body.
